The Food Commons: Reclaiming Land, Cultivating Community
The Food Commons is a landmark 1.8-acre educational farm located on Powerhouse Road in Revelstoke. Born from a partnership between the Indigenous Friendship Society of Revelstoke (IFSR) and the Revelstoke Local Food Initiative (LFI), this project is transforming a historically industrial urban plot into a vibrant space for food sovereignty and cultural exchange.
Healing the Land
For years, this site served industrial purposes, leaving the soil in need of care. Through "reconciliation through remediation," we are working to heal the earth by reintroducing native species—such as birch trees and hazelnut bushes—and building healthy soil systems. This process is more than just gardening; it is an active restoration of the local ecosystem.
A Space for All Generations
The Food Commons is designed to be a "living classroom." By blending traditional Indigenous knowledge with modern sustainable farming, we are creating a resilient food source that can support Revelstoke year-round.

Working Together

Men's Campfire
Join the Circle
The Men's Campfire Group is a welcoming space where men gather around the fire to share stories, build friendships, and support one another. Sitting beneath the open sky, we honor the teachings of respect, community, and shared wisdom.
Inspired by the deep cultural significance of the fire in Indigenous traditions—as a place of storytelling, reflection, and connection—we strengthen bonds, embrace the outdoors, and grow together in the spirit of unity and understanding.
We acknowledge that we gather on the unceded territory of the Sinixt, Secwépemc, Ktunaxa, and Syilx Nations, whose stewardship and wisdom have shaped this land for generations.

Where Have All the Buffalo Gone?
Where Have All The Buffalo Gone? is a love story through the ages. Two star people and a Buffalo, fall to earth and continue to reconnect throughout history. Our play covers seven different periods of Métis history. We bear witness to the emergence of the Métis nations across the plains, the robust colonization that arises from the fur trade, the disappearance of the buffalo and the political uprising of the Métis Association of Alberta. The story begins during creation amongst the stars and ends in the present day.
Where Have All The Buffalo Gone? specifically shares scenarios from the Callihoo family’s stories, incorporating fiddle music, jigging and a life-like buffalo puppet. Inspired by historical events of the Métis people of Canada, this original play for young audiences explores the loves, the losses and the fight of Treaty 6’s Métis people – and their love and kinship to the buffalo.
